my can’t-live-without iphone apps

By Nicole ·   November 1st, 2012

Yesterday, my new iPhone 5 showed up at my doorstep. Ah, love at first sight!

If you have a smartphone, particularly an iPhone, you know that its as individual as you are. You get to customize it just the way you want it. I always love hearing what apps my friends are using so I thought I’d share my top favorites. You can find all of these in the App Store.

Instagram – Need I say more? If you’re not familiar with it, Instagram is a photo based social media network. Its fun to keep up to date with friends and snap a pic, add a filter and share what’s happening in your world, all in one place. This app is free.

Starbucks – Dangerous as this one is, its my favorite. I love being able to pay for my Tall Non-Fat White Mocha with my phone, since its already out and in my hand. You can register all your Starbucks cards and have them all in one place. Keep track of your “rewards” and work up to your free drink. You can also send gift cards…right from the app! This app is free.

My Net Diary – After I’ve ordered too many Starbucks coffees, I get back on track with the My Net Diary app. I’ve opted for the pro version so I could also use the web version. The database is user generated so you can find virtually any food item. Its a great way to determine what your daily caloric input should be and track your progress throughout the day. The pro version is $3.99

Grocery IQ – My sister-in-law turned me on to Grocery IQ. Its a way to keep track of your grocery list by store. You can save items you buy regularly into your favorites to create lists quickly and easily. Then, at the store, check them off as you’re going down the isle. Love it. This app is free.

Go Tasks – For me, this is the easiest and most user friendly “to do” list app I’ve found. You can sync it with your computer’s Gmail account to have it accessible in both places. This app is free.

Map My Run – I use this one every time I run. I started using the web version years ago to plan out routes and distances but the app takes it to a whole other level. MMR can record you as you run and give you prompts on distance, pace, etc. Share your workouts with the world, your friends or just keep them private. This app is free.

PhotoGrid! – This is a great app if you have a bunch of similar or related pictures. Rather than share them one by one on Facebook or Instagram, you can create a photo “grid” or collage quickly and easily. This app is free.

My Radar – I like to know what to expect when it comes to wet weather…don’t you? During the monsoon season here in Tucson, it can be pouring a mile a way and dry as a bone where you’re standing. My Radar is a surprisingly accurate radar to help you anticipate raindrops. This app is free.

My Tucson – I feel like such a good citizen when I use this one. Created to help combat the growing problem of graffiti in our beautiful city, My Tucson lets you quickly snap a shot of graffiti, add a note or description and send an alert to the company contracted to remove it. It automatically determines your location. You can include your contacting information and asked to be notified when it is removed, which is usually done within 24 hours. Ingenious! This app is free.

White Noise – I have trouble falling asleep at night. My mind just wants to keep on going while my body is dog tired. White Noise lets me set up combinations of comforting, soothing sounds to play for as long as I want it to. Or, I can play single sounds, like rain, soft wind, humming, ticking grandfather clock and a number of other unique sounds. Its amazing how it works every time. It has the same effect on me as reading does…after a few minutes I cant keep my eyes open! This app is free.

Near Me – This app is great for traveling. When you’re in a strange city you can find anything from banks to gas stations to restaurants and where they are located in relation to where you are. Super handy. This app is free.

Mileage Log – If you own your own business, this is an invaluable app (when you remember to use it…ahem). You input your trip info, like destination, purpose (business, medical, etc.) and milage. Its keeps track of your past trips so you can add them again with a click of a button. A great help when tax time rolls around. This app is free.

So, what are your faves?

Thanks for sharing Nicole! Most of these apps are my favorites as well, so I definitely think this is great top app list! When it comes to some of my other favorite apps I’d have to say they are: DISH Remote Access (DRA), Chase, TurboCollage, Facebook and Flashlight. Those are the ones I use the most anyways, especially when it comes to DRA. One of the girls I work with at DISH got me a Sling Adapter back when they first released, so since then I’ve been using the app to watch all of my favorite shows from home, live and off my DVR, everywhere I go in the world. I spend a lot of time away on business too, so it really comes in handy when I know I’ll be out of town missing all of my favorite shows. :)
