gettin’ fit update: week 4 – healthy costco finds

By Nicole ·   July 22nd, 2012

This week marks the end of one month of my gettin’ fit journey. Its been a challenging, enlightening, energizing month. Thanks for sharing it with me.

Workouts:

I finished week 4 of C25K. The middle of next week will mark the half way point. Whahoo! I like the slow and steady pace that the program uses to work you up to the 5k. It has been challenging, but at the same time, manageable. I highly recommend it if you’re thinking about starting a running program.

I finished Chris Freytag’s 2-Week Total Body Turnaround. It was a good weight training workout and I’m seeing results in my arms, especially. On the days I dont do the C25K, I walk 2 miles with Husband and do jumping jacks. Im up to about 600 a day. Did you know that if you do 7,000 jumping jacks in a week you will loose one pound…just from that?

Pretty cool. But 1,000 jumping jacks a day isn’t an easy task…especially right at first. If you work up to it, its totally doable and a great, no-nonsense workout.

Diet:

I’m a Costco freak. I can almost buy everything I need there (except my fat free hazelnut creamer, dog food…and a few other things). I love the value, but I also love the quality items they have. Sometimes. You never know if some treasure you find one week will be there the next. But hey, that’s a small price to pay for good overall value and quality.

This week I set out to find some new and healthy products. Here’s my bounty…

(from left to right, front to back)

1. Multigrain Bread – Traditionally, Im not a huge fan of most multigrain breads, but they’re growing on me and this one is really yummy.

2. VitaFusion Gummy Vitamins - For adults. Yes, Im an adult and I take gummy vitamins. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be taken.

3. Salmon - Again, traditionally not a big salmon fan, but I love this recipe from Ina Garten.

4. 1% Milk - So glad they carry it now.

5. CP Shrimp Wonton with Noodles - This was new to me and I really wanted to like it because it’s only 275 calories per serving. But, it didn’t live up to my hopes and dreams. Way too fishy tasting…

6. Short Grain Brown Rice - Enough said. And the whole 12 lb. bag only cost about $4.

7. Ancient Grains Crackers - I haven’t tried them yet, but I bought these in leu of Ritz crackers.

8. Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches - Half vanilla and half cookies and cream. Mmmmm.

9. Fage Non-fat Greek Yogart - A good swap for sour cream in recipes.

So there you have it. Here’s to healthy choices at Costco.

What I Learned This Week:

This week (well, actually a few weeks ago), I learned how to make these cool workout shirts out of t-shirts. Check out these resources I found on Pinterest…

{via Rabbit Food For My Bunny Teeth}

{via Dollars Sense and More}

I had a nice collection of tees just from the last year or so…

and here’s one I made. So easy and I love having extra workout shirts.

Pounds Lost This Week:

The scale tells me I lost .25 lbs this week so that brings me to a total of just under 5 lbs. in 4 weeks. Right on track. Now for a 30 day before and after pic {shutter…}:

Slowly but slowly surely.

    Thanks for the mention! It looks like you’re making great progress on your work out journey. I just finished eating a bunch of cake batter, so I can’t say the same for myself. But I still have hope. :) Best of luck and thanks again.
