gettin’ fit update: week 2 – importance of diet

By Nicole ·   July 7th, 2012

I’m checking in today with the first of my “Gettin Fit” updates. I figured Saturdays would be a good day to do that. And if you’re here looking for a blog or website design, I do that here as well (Its a multifaceted blog… ;) )

Remember how I promised a before-picture last week? No? Oh good because I decided to wait for a few more weeks and do a 30 day before & after comparison shot. Truth be told, I actually took my before photo, but its being held hostage on my DSLR. Somehow the USB cord I use to transfer my photos from my camera has gone missing since our vacation. So I guess it was meant to be. A picture is coming, I promise. I think. I kid…

I thought I’d share what I’ve been doing, how Im feeling, what I’m learning, etc. and so on.

Long story short, I feel amazing!!! Two full weeks down and I can already feel my body responding. Here’s what my week looked like:

Workouts:

I did week 1 and 2 of C25K.

On the off days, I walked 2 miles with Husby. All in all, I logged 10 and 10.5 miles the last two weeks. Not too bad to start, if I do brag so myself.

I’ve also incorporated a great little workout routine everyday…

It only takes about 12-15 minutes, but it gets me sweatin and my heart a pumpin. I’ll stay with it for a while until I need a change or start feeling myself plateau. I found it…where else…on Pinterest.

Diet:

This is my challenge area. And Im guessing Im not alone. But its been pretty ok this past two weeks. After working my butt of I dont feel the great desire for chocolate cake and fried chicken. I still enjoyed 1/2 a burger and 1/2 a Salted Caramel Milkshake at Zinburger last week, but that’s now an exception (as in, once a week) and not the norm. Lots of veggies and fruit and low fat choices. And breakfast. A good, complete breakfast every day. It makes a huge difference.

What I Learned This Week:

Getting fit is accomplished 70% in the kitchen and 30% in the gym (or home gym). I saw this on Pinterest too and completely agree. The workout part is hard, but its only an hour or less out of your day. The other 23 hours are won or lost in the kitchen. its a longer, less intense kind of “work” but much more effective and important in achieving weight loss.

Pounds Lost This Week:

2 lbs last week

and

2 lbs this week

Yippeeee! And not only that, but I can feel a little more muscle definition and my clothes are fitting every so slightly better.

Good week… :) How about you? Are you on a “gettin’ fit” journey? What has worked for you?
