JumpStart, Meet the Wii.

By Nicole · Comments (2)
Monday, August 31st, 2009

I’ve mentioned before that our family has been been a big fan of JumpStart educational games for children. Our 13 year old played many of the games at different developmental stages.

Fast forward 13 year and enter the age of the Wii. Like a lot of people, “Wii” love this new technology as well, frequently engaging in games like Rock Band, Wii Sports and Mario & Sonic at the Olypmic Games.

Well now JumpStart has entered the Wii arena. I love that something fun and interactive is also educational.

I had the privilege of trying the new JumpStart Pet Rescue for Wii. Unfortunately, my own dear children are a bit too old for this game, targeted for ages 3-6. But, this last weekend, I stole borrowed invited my four year old nephew over to give the game a whirl.

Not only did we have to peel him away from the game, but he really looked like he enjoyed himself while he navigated through it. I figured he would, (we’re talking JumpStart here…) but I was surprised at how fun it was for my 8 year old to show him the ropes. And the adults enjoyed how “unannoying” the audio was. There were no shrill bells and screeching whistles in the background, trying to keep his attention. Just fun, interactive activities teaching simple skills.

As a first time Wii player, it took a few minutes for him to get the hang of the remote and how it interacted with the game. But before long he was navigating through the different areas and enjoyed the various activities. He particularly enjoyed the cute animals, the Movie House and the dress up area. The Pet Groomers was fun for him too.

Pet Rescue is due to release this week to major retailers such as Walmart, Fry’s, Best Buy, Sam’s Club and other retail stores. If you’d like more information about Pet Rescue for Wii, check out the Jumpstart blog. There you will find the latest information on their games, tips for parents and helpful links.

I cant wait to see what JumpStart has in store for the future. Its bound to be a hit!

HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web: A Giveaway

By Nicole
Monday, August 24th, 2009

UPDATE: The winner of this giveaway is #238…Jamie!

hp-random-winner

Leave it to HP to come up with something revolutionary…again.

I’m a huge fan of HP; of their products and their services like SnapFish and Creative Studio. I’m also a fan of practicality and affordability.

That’s why I’m thrilled to be sharing an opportunity with you to win the new HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web, the world’s first web connected home printer.  Yes…I said “win”.

With this revolutionary new device, you have the power of the web behind an all-in-one sleek printer reasonably priced at $399. Ink cartridges will only put you back about $10 (a selling point in itself, for me!).

HP-Photosmart-Premium-with-TouchSmart-Web-FrontWith apps like Google Maps, Fandago, SnapFish and Coupons.com, you can directly connect to the web to easily print maps, movie tickets, photos, coupons, recipes…just to name a few. It’s like the iPhone and a fancy schmancy printer got married and had a really cool baby.

The digital age has obviously moved us away from needless and wasteful over printing. But even in a world of just about digital everything, there are still times when the printed piece is necessary and appropriate. For instance, digital coupons are most likely not going to be as convenient as clipping a paper coupon. Or how about handing over your smart phone to give a friend directions via Google Maps. Not as practical as good ol’ paper and ink.

So here’s the skinny. The PhotoSmart isn’t even available yet (but will later this Fall!) and HP wants your help. With the ability to expand the apps database, HP wants to know what application would be the most helpful to you. There are many preloaded apps that come with the printer, but more will come available as they are developed. I know personally, my top picks will be the one touch coupons and recipes. And I’d love to see printable postage and some sort of to do list (as to experience that gratifying feeling only achieved by physically crossing items off of that list).

To enter:

  • simply leave a comment on this post with your top choice of apps and/or an idea for an app that would be useful to you
  • for extra entries, tweet about this contest up to once a day (and leave a comment for each)
  • or blog about this contest (and leave a comment with a link to your post)
  • Giveaway ends Sept. 8 at 10:00 p.m. PST

Good luck!

Take A Stroll With Me – Week 3 (and a Bonus!)

I have a special little treat to add to this weeks stroll. Consider it a sale, free with purchase, or a 5 dollar bill you find on a sidewalk, sort of thing. I was looking for a vintagey (that’s a word, right?), shabby chic kind of Twitter button. And low and behold, Google as I might…I couldnt find one. So I made my own. That lead to an RSS button and then I had to round it off with an email button.

So if this look suites your design, feel free to use it. Go ahead, really. Its quite alright…

Paint Your Life: A Review

By Nicole · Comments (1)
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I have to admit; I’ve never really been a big fan of oil paintings. When I even think of the term, the cheap, reproduction versions used in hotel rooms comes to mind first.

But my mind has been changed thanks to PaintYourLife.

This innovative company got the idea of taking your photos and turning them into artwork. And not just any artwork; one-of-a-kind pieces that will become a part of your history.

I ordered a 40 x 30 inch oil painting (you can also get charcoal, watercolor, pastel, pencil or acrylic) and sent them this photo:

This was the result:

Beautiful, no? Look at the detail…

Thinking I was just bias, I was pleased when I heard the reactions from other people. Last week, we had a party and invited about 45 of our friends. As I gave the tour of our new house, every single person stopped in front of the painting, ooohed and ahhhed, and asked where in the world I had it done. I was so proud.

I was very impressed with how easy it was to order my painting. The process was simple and easy and the turn around time was amazingly fast. The painting arrived in perfect condition due to the expert packaging.

If you’re looking for that perfect piece to hang above the mantel or need an extra special gift for the grandparents, you’ll want to take a peek at PaintYourLife. You’ll be glad you did.

By Nicole
Friday, August 14th, 2009

UPDATE: The winner of this giveaway (randomly selected) is #43, Jdaniel4smom! Congratulations!

I love photographs. I love to scrapbook them, share them with friends, and decorate with them.

We recently moved into a new house…a blank canvas laid out right before me. I’ve been spending the last few weeks planning, placing, hammering and saying “a little to the left”.

I love how photographs instantly add personality and character and warmth.
